Faculty and staff may obtain VMware products for non-production and research use for free through the IT-sponsored VMware Academic Program subscription.  This includes VMware Workstation, Fusion, vCenter, vCloud Suite, and vSphere.

The free licenses may be used for instruction and non-commercial research, including labs.  Faculty, students, and staff involved in administering systems may install the software on your computers.  Examples of acceptable use are available here: http://www.vmware.com/partners/academic/usage.html.  The full user agreement is available at https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/downloads.  Affiliates are not eligible.

To download the software, login to https://myaccess.ucsf.edu, and select "VMware Academic Program" from the list of apps on the MyAccess landing page.

Evaluation licenses are good for 365 days.  You will need to obtain a new license every year and you may need to reinstall the product.

If you have trouble downloading the software, please assign a Service Now incident to Patrick Phelan.
