Scheduled Maintenance: Campus Data Network – Parnassus, Mission Bay, Laurel Heights & Remote Sites

Status Type

Scheduled Maintenance

Date and Time

Friday, June 14, 2013 - 20:00 to Saturday, June 15, 2013 - 08:00

Reason

System configuration changes will be made in ten (10) five (5) minute intervals throughout the change window.

Impact

During these change intervals, users will experience brief losses of connectivity as changes are made between the Campus and Medical Center networks and between Medical Center and the Internet - Campus to Internet will not be impacted.

CAMPUS Users: Campus users will experience brief communications interruptions when communicating with systems hosted on the Medical Center network (such as APEX and HBS). Campus will not experience any outages communicating to and from the Internet.  Services such as Exchange, vpn@UCSF will work without issue.

MEDICAL CENTER Users: When changes are made remote users accessing Medical Center services via VPN or the Campus networks such as APEX Connect will be given notification five (5) minutes prior via Citrix client that a disconnect will occur and they should save all data.  This notification process will be followed for every one of the ten (10) incremental outages.  If an outage extends beyond the five (5) minute interval, the Service Desk must issue an additional notification via web page stating “system to be restored in approximately X minutes.”

Additional Information: If there is question about which network someone is using, users can go to http://www.whatismyip.com/. An IP that starts with 128.218 or 169.230 is on the Campus network.  Additionally, IP addresses that starts at 64.54.128 through 65.54.255 are also on the campus network.  Medical Center networks all appear to be in the 64.54.0 through 64.54.127 range from the above URL.
