Multi-factor (Duo) Login Experience

Overview
Duo has been rolled out to all UCSF users as the two-factor authentication solution to access:
- Pulse Secure VPN Client
- Remote.ucsf.edu (VPN)
- Outlook Web Access (email.ucsf.edu)
- APeX connect portal and other applications
The different login procedures with each of these applications are described below.
Pulse Secure VPN client
Pulse Secure is the VPN client you use when you are not at UCSF to connect your desktop or laptop computer to the UCSF network.
- Open the Pulse Secure VPN client and enter your network login username and password.
- You will be prompted to enter a secondary password.
- Use one of the Duo authentication methods to provide your secondary password, then click Connect.
Remote.ucsf.edu
Remote.ucsf.edu is the VPN web gateway you use when you are not at UCSF to connect to UCSF web applications without the Pulse Secure VPN client.
- In your web browser, go to https://remote.ucsf.edu and log in with your AD username and password.
- You will see this screen, asking you to choose an authentication method:
- Click on Send Me a Push, Call Me or Enter a Passcode to complete your login.

Outlook Web Access (email.ucsf.edu)
Outlook Web Access (email.ucsf.edu) is UCSF's web email application.
- In your web browser, go to https://email.ucsf.edu and log in with your email address and password.
- You will see this screen, asking you to choose an authentication method:
- Click on Send Me a Push, Call Me or Enter a Passcode to complete your login.

APeX connect portal (connect.ucsfmedicalcenter.org)
Outlook Web Access (connect.ucsfmedicalcenter.org) is UCSF's APeX remote access portal.
- In your web browser, go to https://connect.ucsfmedicalcenter.org and log in with your Active Directory/APeX username and password.
- You will see this screen, asking you to choose an authentication method:
- Click on Send Me a Push, Call Me or Enter a Passcode to complete your login.
