HEARNet Radio

Overview

Hospital Emergency Administrative Radio Network (HEARNet) is an emergency backup radio channel for:

  • Receiving hospitals
  • The blood bank
  • The Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMSA) -
         Emergency Communications Department (ECD)
  • The City & County of San Francisco - Emergency Operations Center
  • The San Francisco Department of Health (SFDPH) - Department Operations Center.

HEARNet radios are located in the Emergency Departments at Parnassus and the Mission Bay Benioff Children's Hospital.

HEARNet is used for:

  • Reporting facility damage and requirements for emergency assistance, supplies and personnel
  • Notifying receiving hospitals of the number and severity of incoming patients during a disaster

Testing and Training

The San Francisco Emergency Medical Services Agency, Policy 3010 requires all new and existing HEARNet users must be provided with adequate training in order to ensure competent use of the HEARNet radio.

HEARNet is available for use at all times except when there are scheduled maintenance events.
