IT Services offers managed physical servers. Hosted servers are housed in a controlled environment designed for computer servers.
The data center located near the Mission Bay campus features:
- Secured entry
- 7 X 24 monitoring of environmental control system
- Controlled humidity and temperature
- Fire detection and fire suppression
- Water intrusion sensors
- Sufficient power for all installed equipment
- Battery backup and standby generators to maintain normal operations during a utility outage
- Pre-existing industry standard server racks with full cable and power management
An interview with prospective clients would take place to determine:
- Physical server requirements
- Space needed in rack
- Any additional storage or device attached
- Presence of PHI or other sensitive data
- Network requirements
- Accessible to UCSF only
- Accessible to general public
- Business flow of server
- Who accesses it
- What it’s used for
- Dependencies on other systems
- Secure logon requirement?
- Who is responsible for ongoing maintenance of any applications (IT Services, customer, vendor)
- Monitoring requirements
- Backup requirements
Ongoing Support includes:
- Monitoring
- Environmental
- System health (hardware)
- Operating system
- Troubleshooting and remediation of any operating system issues or errors identified by monitoring software
- Monthly patching of servers for security patches
