What will happen to Windows 10 systems at UCSF after October 2028?
- Microsoft will no longer provide security patches and leave your system vulnerable.
- We will be blocking Windows 10 systems from the UCSF network (Date TBD).
- Please file for a Security Exception to see if the system is eligible. Submit a Security Exception.
What are my options if I have a system running Windows 10?
- Upgrade your current system to Windows 11 if it meets the minimum requirements:
- UCSF Windows 10 Minimum Requirements
- Processor: Intel 8th Gen CPU or higher.
- Graphics Card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver.
- RAM: 8 gigabytes (GB)
- Hard Drive: 256 GB
- TPM: Must have TPM Version 2.0
- Hardware: Systems should not be older than 5 years old.
- UCSF Windows 10 Minimum Requirements
- If your system is managed by ITFS or a Medical Center System
- We will deploy Windows 11 upgrades starting August 2024 in small increments.
- If you would like Windows 11 sooner, please click here to open a ticket to request Windows 11.
- If your system is a personally owned device (BYOD), you will need to purchase a Windows 11 - Professional License key from a vendor.

- Retail Stores such as Office Depot, Best Buy, Staples, etc.
- If your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements
- Please purchase a new system that supports or comes with Windows 11.
- If you cannot upgrade because you have software/peripherals that is not compatible with Windows 11:
- Contact the vendor for an updated version that supports Windows 11 and upgrade the application and OS.
- Remove the system from the network and use it offline.
- File a security exception.
