How to Request Access

It's important to note that there are two ways you can set up Ed Discussion for a course. Before you set up Ed Discussion for your course, you'll need to decide whether to have your participants access the Ed Discussion forum through edstem.org or through the CLE because these are two separate platforms. Once you have set it up, you will be able to add external non-UCSF participants via the edstem.org interface, such as guest lecturers or graders. For more information, see Overview: Ed Discussion.

  • NOTE: Because there are multiple ways you can set up Ed Discussion for a course, we recommend you consult the UCSF Instructional Design team or your school course managers for guidance on how best to set up Ed Discussion to meet your needs.

Ed Discussion is a robust threaded discussion and question-and-answer platform that allows instructors to facilitate course-wide communications. You can use it within the CLE or separate from it as its own tool. Ed Discussion offers advanced features to improve learner engagement and instructor workflows with streamlined response managements, detailed analytics and robust reporting functionalities. It supports synchronous and asynchronous online discussions that allow students to post and answer each other’s questions, and easily find instructor-endorsed answers.
