Apple released its newest version of macOS, called Golden Gate (version 27), on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026. UCSF IT is currently testing macOS Golden Gate for compatibility with UCSF systems and standard security software.
Please refrain from upgrading to macOS Golden Gate until further notice, even if the option is available in Software Updates. The macOS Golden Gate installer is currently blocked from running on all enterprise-managed Macs at UCSF to help prevent potential performance issues with UCSF software that is not yet officially compatible with the new OS version.
With the release of macOS Golden Gate, UCSF IT will start phasing out support for macOS Sonoma as Apple discontinues security maintenance for the operating system.
UCSF IT will provide an update on usage of Golden Gate within the next four months. If you have any questions, please contact John Chin, Director of IT Customer Experience. For support issues, please contact the Service Desk.
