Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN
Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN enables UCSF to provide secure connections to the UCSF network regardless of where the user is when connecting. Palo Alto GlobalProtect VPN provides the ability to keep you, your data, and UCSF safe when you are connecting to the UCSF network remotely. Since a locally installed VPN client simplifies access when you are not on campus, it is a good idea to make it your primary choice when connecting remotely.

Network Access Control (NAC)
With the volume and impact of security threats growing at UCSF and around the world, we have steadily improved UCSF’s security posture over the last few years. After a 2017 security assessment showed that we still had some way to go, Chancellor Hawgood instructed us to “move purposefully” on a suite of security initiatives, including the deployment of Network Access Control (NAC).

IT Security Risk Assessment
UCSF is required by a number of policies, laws, and regulations to assess the security risk of information systems that handle UCSF data. The IT security risk assessment process collects information about each of our information systems and scores their security compliance. The process measures the security aspects of all computing devices associated with the system including servers, desktop computers and laptops, mobile devices, network hardware, and other related technologies.

VPN - Remote connection
GlobalProtect VPN allows users outside of the UCSF directly connected internal network to access restricted resources at UCSF (e.g., connecting to file shares, servers, desktops). The system provides a fully encrypted connection between the client device (laptop, smartphone, tablet, etc.) and the UCSF network providing access identical to systems connected via wired or wireless within UCSF facility.
