Jumpstart projects

Jumpstart projects are focused content management and strategy engagements designed to get your website up and running quickly on the Drupal Site Builder platform.

Projects start at a minimum of 40 hours. We’re happy to meet with you to further define scope based on your specific needs.

Jumpstart offering

• Information architecture: Site structure and organization
• Content strategy: Plan content organization and presentation
• Asset management: Guide selection and preparation of approved photos, videos, logos, and graphics
• Site build: Build or update your site based on approved information archictecture and content strategy.
• Hands-on Drupal CMS training: Provide practical, guided training throughout the build process, including participation during QA and pre-launch
• Website technical setup: Manage site launch and all associated ServiceNow tickets and related activities
• Project management: Coordinate timeline, meetings, follow-ups, and action items throughout the project

How to prepare

To make the most of a Jumpstart project, we recommend thinking through the following in advance:

• Who: Who is your audience (internal UCSF users, external/community users, or both)?
• What: What do you want users to do, learn, or engage with on your site?
• When: When do users interact with your site, and what does their journey look like?
• Where: Where is your content currently housed? Do you have an existing website or use platforms like Box or SharePoint? If not, how do you currently share information (e.g., email, PDFs)?
• Why: Why do users come to your site instead of another? What makes your team, program, or care unique?
• How: How do you want to present and differentiate your presence online?

Having clarity on these questions will help guide our consultation and support next steps in building your website.

Custom Website

In some cases, Site Builder cannot provide the tools or flexibility to meet your web presence needs.  In these cases, Website Services can manage a custom website solution.  As part of these custom projects, we will thoroughly evaluate your requirements and specify solutions that satisfy your specific needs while maintaining compliance with UC standards for security and accessibility.  Our experience in delivering these projects allows our group to leverage our existing developer relationships to ensure the highest quality end product that Web Services can confidently host and support for years to come.

Custom Website Support

Custom websites need code updates, testing, and occasional configuration changes. In order to assure the security and quality of custom sites IT offers custom website support. Support contracts last for a year and provide 3 hours a month for support and updates of your custom website. 

General consulting services

Our standard rate for all services is $100/hour and can include any/all of the following services. Note that we do not work on specific projects less than 40 hours. If you would like to scope a consulting project, please use the website consultation form.

• Technical product and project management
• Vendor selection guidance and management
• Website design and usability
• Content strategy and management
• Custom website development (see above)

Fees & service costs

Jumpstart: $4,000 and up, one-time fee

Custom website discovery, design, and development: $100 per hour (plus external vendor costs, if applicable)

Custom website support: $3,600 per year

General consulting services: $100 per hour (plus external vendor costs, if applicable)
