Jumpstart projects

Jumpstart projects are focused content strategy and site-building engagements designed to help you launch or improve your website quickly using UCSF’s Drupal Site Builder platform.

Jumpstart projects begin at a minimum of 40 hours. We’ll work with you to define the scope and level of support based on your website goals and specific needs.

Our customers leave with a launched Drupal site and the knowledge to maintain it.

Jumpstart offering

• Information architecture: Develop your site structure, navigation, and content organization
• Content strategy: Plan how content is organized, prioritized, and presented (site owners are responsible for content development and all site images)
• Visual asset guidance: Guide the selection and preparation of approved photos, videos, logos, and graphics
• Site build: Build or update your site based on the approved information architecture and content strategy (site owners are engaged in the site QA)
• Drupal CMS training: Provide practical, guided training throughout the build, including participation in quality assurance (QA) and pre-launch activities
• Website technical setup: Coordinate technical setup, site launch, ServiceNow tickets, and related launch activities
• Project management: Manage the project timeline, meetings, follow-ups, action items, and coordination throughout the engagement

How to prepare

To make the most of your Jumpstart consultation and project, consider the following questions in advance:

• Who: Who are your primary visitors—UCSF users, external or community audiences, or both?
• What: What do you want visitors to do, learn, or find on your website?
• When: When and why might visitors need your website? Consider where the site fits within their overall journey or experience.
• Where: Where does your content live today? Do you have an existing website, or use platforms such as Box or SharePoint? If not, how do you currently share information, such as through email or PDFs?
• Why: Why will visitors come to your website? What is distinctive about your team, program, services, or care?
• How: How would you like to present your organization and its content online?

Thinking through these questions will help us understand your needs, guide the consultation, and develop an appropriate plan for your website.

Custom Website

When Drupal Site Builder does not provide the functionality or flexibility needed for your web project, Website Services can help develop and manage a custom website solution.

We’ll work with you to evaluate your requirements and identify a solution tailored to your needs while meeting applicable UC standards for security and accessibility. Drawing on our experience and established developer relationships, we coordinate the design and development process to deliver a high-quality website that Website Services can reliably host and support for years to come.

Custom Website Support

Custom websites require ongoing maintenance to remain secure, reliable, and up to date. Website Services offers annual support for custom websites, including code updates, testing, troubleshooting, configuration changes, and other maintenance needs.

Annual support includes up to three hours of support per month for your custom website.

General consulting services

Our standard rate for all services is $125/hour and can include any/all of the following services. Note that we do not work on specific projects less than 40 hours. If you would like to scope a consulting project, please use the website consultation form.

• Technical product and project management
• Vendor selection guidance and management
• Website design and usability
• Content strategy and management
• Custom website development (see above)

Fees & service costs

• Jumpstart: $4,000 and up, one-time fee
• Custom website discovery, design, and development: $100 per hour (plus external vendor costs, if applicable)
• Custom website support: $3,600 per year
• General consulting services: $125 per hour (plus external vendor costs, if applicable)
