If you use a UCSF Windows machine in one of these scenarios:

- Off-campus and using Pulse Secure VPN
- Use mainly the UCSF WPA wireless on-campus i.e. Not connected to an ethernet cable connection (directly or via a docking station) on-campus often

Changing your login password via the Password Management Tool will not apply your new password to your machine automatically. You will have to use your previous password to log into the computer.

To update the password on the computer, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into your computer with your Old Password. Open Pulse Secure and get connected into the VPN with your New Password.

  2. While connected to Pulse Secure, Lock your computer by going to the Windows button, clicking the top icon, then click on the Lock button.
    Lock
  3. Log into the computer as normal with your New Password.

  • NOTE: If you use Apex, have an icon on your desktop and have done the above steps, connect to Pulse Secure again and try to open Apex. If you get the below error, close out of it and go back to Step 2 and instead of Locking your computer, click Sign Out. Log back in, connect to Pulse and try again.

If you are unable to log into your computer with your Old Password or have forgotten it, please contact the UCSF Service Desk at 415-514-4100.
