Duo Mobile app update required by March 31
-
Author: Michael Marmon
- Date:
Summary:
The Duo Mobile app must be updated to version 4.85.0 or above (the most current version is 4.107.0).
Details:
UCSF IT has identified about 1,600 users who require an update to the Duo Mobile application used to authenticate securely with their UCSF accounts and another 300 users who must upgrade their operating system or device to install the latest version of Duo Mobile.
To maintain seamless operation of the Duo Mobile app, users are asked to update their devices by Tuesday, March 31.
What's happening
Effective Feb. 3, a Duo Mobile app pop-up began displaying a warning regarding the need to update. If not updated, on March 31, the app will cease functioning properly. Multifactor authentication (MFA) will be unavailable, and some UCSF resources may become unavailable, including VPN and off-network access to email. To prevent this from happening, update the Duo Mobile app to version 4.85.0 or above (the most current version is 4.107.0).
Action required
Make sure your Duo mobile application is updated to version 4.85.0 or above (the most current version is 4.107.0). Depending the device type, you may need to manually update the app. Additionally, updating the app may require you to first update your mobile device to iOS 17 or later or Android 12 or later depending on your device type.
Need to update the Duo Mobile app?
Search for the latest version of the Duo Mobile app in the Google Play Store or Mac App Store. Install the update.
If you have an out-of-date operating system (OS) that’s prohibiting you from installing Duo Mobile app v4.85.0, you can easily update it by following these steps below.
For iOS users
Follow these steps to check the current version of your operating system:
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap About. Your current iOS version will be listed next to iOS Version near the top.
3. Determine if you need to update iOS. The minimum iOS version required by Duo going forward will be iOS 17.
Follow these steps to update your operating system:
1. Ensure that your device is plugged in and charging.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Tap General.
4. Tap Software Update. The currently installed version of iOS will be shown and whether an update is available.
5. If an update is available, tap Download and Install, then follow the onscreen instructions.
6. After the update is complete, check your iOS version again and confirm that the new version number is listed.
For Android users
Follow these steps to check the current version of your operating system:
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap About phone.
3. Scroll down to Android version. Your current Android version will be listed next to Android version near the top.
4. Determine if you need to update your Android. The minimum Android version required by Duo going forward will be Android 12.
Follow these steps to update your operating system:
1. Ensure that your device is plugged in and charging.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Tap System.
3. Tap System Update. If an update is available, you'll be prompted to download and install it.
4. After the update is complete, check your Android version again and confirm that the new version number is listed.
Need to upgrade your device?
If you are unable to install either iOS 17 or Android 12 on your device, you will need to obtain a new device that is compatible with one of them in order to continue using Duo. If obtaining a new device before March 31 is not feasible, or if you would prefer not to use a mobile device for Duo authentication going forward, you can alternatively request a Duo hardware token.
