Navigating Box

Box is a cloud-based storage application for storage and collaboration on the documents that you will develop at UCSF. The following link will assist you with understanding how to use and navigate Box:

  • The Basics of Box
  • Search for Files, Folders, and Content

Create Files and Folders in Box

Box provides users with the ability to create new documents and organize their work into folders as well providing methods for quick access to information that they use consistently (e.g., Favorites). This section will provide context to create files and a folder structure within Box.

  • Creating New Files and Folders
  • Understanding Folder Settings
  • Delete Files or Folders

Collaborating in Box

Box provides users with the ability to share and collaborate on documents within the application. The following links will provide insights in the types of features associated with collaborating within Box. To learn more about permissions for collaborators, please review the Understanding Collaborator Permission Levels document.

  • Inviting Collaborators
  • Managing Collaborators
  • Creating Shared Links
  • Configuring Individual Shared Link Settings
  • Adding Comments and Tasks
  • Locking & Unlocking Files

NOTE: When working with External Collaborators, they will need to sign-in to Box to access shared content in Box. However, a shared link can be used with external collaborators if they are simply reviewing a document as that does not require a user to be logged into Box.

Organizing and Tracking Content

As users create documents in Box, they can designate favorites for the documents used frequently and can review the access stats of files to better understand how content is being interacted with.

  • Creating Bookmarks
  • Accessing Version History
