Legacy Outlook for Mac ends Oct. 1: Transfer “On My Computer” data

Beginning Oct. 1, 2026, Microsoft is retiring Exchange Web Service (EWS), which Legacy Outlook for Mac uses to connect to Exchange Online. This means that Legacy Outlook for Mac will no longer work with UCSF’s email system, and Mac users who still use Legacy Outlook for UCSF emails will be switched to New Outlook automatically by Microsoft. 

This also means that archived emails or other data stored under “On My Computer” in Legacy Outlook will be lost unless you import them into New Outlook. To prevent losing this data, you should import it as soon as possible. Follow these instructions to transfer "On My Computer" data to the new Outlook for Mac.

Please note: Offline archives on Macs are not protected by UCSF's current data backup solution, OneDrive Sync.  

Users who are interested in having additional mailbox storage for online archiving should submit a ticket to the IT Service Desk.
