School of Medicine Active Directory domain migration begins April 6

  • Author: Michael Marmon

  • Date:

In the first half of 2026, UCSF IT – working closely with School of Medicine partners – will begin migrating SOM assets (servers, accounts, groups, and policies) from the SOM Active Directory domain to the UCSF Campus Active Directory domain.

The SOM AD domain migration is part of a long-planned effort to strengthen security, improvreliability, simplify the login experience, and help reduce IT operating costs.

What to expect

As part of the migration, a user’s Active Directory profile will move from the SOM domain to the UCSF Campus domain. After this change, users will use their UCSF Campus login credentials for authentication.

From the week of April 6 through the week of May 4, migrations will roll out in weekly waves. Users will receive a targeted email 7 days before their scheduled migration.

How to prepare

Before a user’s migration date, UCSF IT recommends:

  • Backing up any files stored locally on their machine, preferably to OneDrive. For instructions, please review the Microsoft 365: OneDrive Sync article.
  • Reviewing any additional instructions included in their individual migration notice.

Backups of files and browser settings ensure users retain access to their files after the migration is complete. Instructions to assist with these steps will be included in individual migration notices.
