How to Request Access

Everyone with an active UCSF email address has access to OneDrive Sync. To use OneDrive Sync on your Windows or Mac workstation, you must have OneDrive installed.

Description

OneDrive Sync allows you to sync designated folders on your computer to OneDrive. This enables users to access their files in multiple systems. Learn more about Backing up your Folders with OneDrive.

Benefits

  • Automatic file backup - Files saved to a workstation's Desktop, Documents, or Pictures folder will automatically be updated.
  • Seamless access to files - With your files backed up to Microsoft OneDrive, you can access your files from anywhere on the web as well as desktop and mobile devices.
  • Space saving - Local storage is saved by storing files in the cloud that can be downloaded as needed in your work.

Support

For questions and support, review the Frequently Asked Questions page or submit a ticket on our Employee Self-Service Portal. You can also chat with other Microsoft 365 users at UCSF on the Office 365 Team (open to anyone at UCSF - use the join code 7me7twx).

Training

There are several resources with assisting you in using OneDrive Sync in your work whether you have a Windows or Mac workstation:

  • Getting Started with OneDrive Sync on Windows
  • Getting Started with OneDrive Sync on Mac

Limitations

OneDrive is not intended to be a full backup solution. OneDrive sync will work as a backup solution for most users, but there are some restrictions and limitations. Learn more about the Restrictions and Limitations in OneDrive and SharePoint.

NOTE: On Macs, only OneDrive from our standard MS Office installer or from our Jamf Self Service app portal support OneDrive sync. The OneDrive app from the Mac App Store does not support OneDrive sync.
