Getting Started with OneDrive Sync on Macs

OneDrive Sync allows you to sync designated folders on your Mac computer to OneDrive. This enables users to access their files in multiple systems. This page will assist you with configuring OneDrive Sync on your Mac computer.

Considerations

When OneDrive Sync is enabled, it will move these designated folders to a new location listed below. Please update any links/shortcuts you may have. 

Mac Folders:

  • Desktop:
    Before: /Users/<username>/Desktop
    After: /Users/<username>/Library/CloudStorage/OneDrive-UCSF/Desktop/
  • Documents:
    Before: /Users/<username>/Documents
    After: /Users/<username>/Library/CloudStorage/OneDrive-UCSF/Documents/

Setting up OneDrive Sync on Macs (First-time logging into OneDrive)

  1. From the Applications folder on your Mac workstation, select Self Service within the Utilities folder.
  2. Select Browse in the left-hand navigation before clicking Microsoft 365.
  3. Under the Back up folders with OneDrive option, click the Install Configur... button.

  4. If prompted with the Back up folders with OneDrive screen, review the description before clicking the Install Configur... button.

  5. Open OneDrive on your workstation. When prompted, enter your UCSF email address before clicking Sign In.

  6. Log with your UCSF email address and password.

  7. Authenticate with Duo if you are not currently on the UCSF internal network or VPN.

  8. On the Your OneDrive Folder screen, click Next.

  9. After the Finish Setting Up screen loads, click Next.

  10. When prompted with the "OneDrive.app" would like to start syncing popup, click OK.

  11. Congratulations! You have successfully configured OneDrive Sync for Mac and will begin to see you files sync after a short period of time.

Setting up OneDrive Sync on Macs (Already logged into OneDrive)

  1. From the Applications folder on your Mac workstation, select Self Service within the Utilities folder.
  2. Select Browse in the left-hand navigation before clicking Microsoft 365.
  3. Under the Back up folders with OneDrive option, click the Install Configur... button.

  5. Congratulations! Once the installer completes, you will be able to use OneDrive Sync on your Mac workstation.
