Getting Started with OneDrive Sync on Windows

OneDrive Sync allows you to sync designated folders on your Windows computer to OneDrive. This enables users to access their files in multiple systems. This page will assist you with configuring OneDrive Sync on your Windows computer.

Considerations

When OneDrive Sync is enabled, it will move these designated folders to a new location listed below. Please update any links/shortcuts you may have. 

Windows Folders:

  • Desktop:
    Before: C:\Users\XXXXX\Desktop
    After: C:\Users\XXXXX\UCSF - OneDrive\Desktop
  • Documents:
    Before: C:\Users\XXXXX\Documents
    After: C:\Users\XXXXX\UCSF - OneDrive\Documents
  • Pictures:
    Before: C:\Users\XXXXX\Pictures
    After: C:\Users\XXXXX\UCSF - OneDrive\Pictures

Setting up OneDrive Sync on Windows (First-Time logging into OneDrive)

  1. Open the OneDrive application on your desktop and enter your UCSF email address.

  2. On the Automatically sign in to all desktop apps and websites on this device? screen, select Yes, all apps.

  3. The You're all set screen will load, click Done.

  4. Select Next on the Your OneDrive folder screen.

  5. When prompted with the Back up folders on this PC screen, select the folders to backup before clicking Start backup.

  6. Continue through the tutorial to complete the configuration of OneDrive Sync.
  7. Congratulations! You have successfully set up OneDrive Sync on Windows and will begin to see you files sync after a short period of time.

Setting up OneDrive Sync on Windows (Already logged into OneDrive) 

  1. Open the OneDrive application on your workstation.
  2. Navigate to Settings, Sync and backup before clicking Manage backup.
  3. On the Back up folders on this PC screen, select the toggles next to Documents, Pictures, and Desktop folders to begin syncing files within these locations.

  4. Continue through the tutorial to complete the configuration of OneDrive Sync.
  5. Congratulations! You have successfully set up OneDrive Sync on Windows and will begin to see your files sync after a short period of time.

NOTE: If you experience an Unable to sync error as shown below, please open a support ticket with the IT Service Desk.
