Digital Accessibility Wrap Up for 2023

The UCSF IT Digital Accessibility program continued its growth and gained awareness. Here are a few highlights of digital accessibility efforts at UCSF this year.

Two Monthly Training Opportunities

Testing Websites with Users with Disabilities

This 90-minute clinic features the commentary of a screen reader user as they experience the featured UCSF website with their assistive technology.

Attendees expressed their appreciation in chat comments during the last session.

Diana “Dee” Martinez, from the Office of Graduate Medical Education, says “Thank you!! This certainly gives me perspective on accessibility for this app and our website in general.”

Her colleague Anita Browning replied, “Agree with Dee completely! Very helpful—thank you!”

Digital Accessibility Office Hours

Monthly open agenda sessions hosted by Jill Wolters.

“I love everything about these office hours – the frequency, the length, how the agenda is built – I think it is a very successful format. I never feel obligated to participate and have found great reward in being a passive listener during these sessions. That said, when I do participate with questions, I get put on the right track with tools and resources to tackle the issues.

What I didn't expect to get from these sessions, is the satisfaction I feel when I help a colleague from an entirely different department with a suggestion and when colleagues help me. These sessions can make me feel part of the larger UCSF organization in the best possible way.” - Anonymous survey response

Office Hours sessions start again in 2024 on Wednesday, January 24th, 9 to 9:50 a.m. Sign up to attend.

Special Live Manual Testing Clinic

Back by popular demand, we held another live instructor-led training on manual testing techniques. Links to the training materials are provided in this article “Recording available of the Manual Accessibility Testing Lunch and Learn.
