  • Owner Team: IT Security
  • Service:
    Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP)

Description

Reasons for upgrading include (1) the computer may be running Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 and have an older SEP client installed on it; (2) there is a want or need for the Windows workstation to be upgraded to Windows 10.

System requirements

SEP hardware requirements:

  • Processor: 1GHz Pentium III or above (Itanium is not supported)
  • RAM:
    •  1GB minimum (2 to 4GB recommended)
  • Free hard drive space:
    • 32-bit Windows: 600MB
    • 64-bit Windows: 700MB

Upgrade guidelines

The SEP client should be upgraded to the latest version available from https://software.ucsf.edu/content/endpoint-protection. Additionally, make sure Virus and Spyware Protection definitions are up to July 27, 2015, or later.

As of this date, definitions include an update to the Eraser engine (115.1.1.10) or later, which is required for Windows 10 compatibility.

If you're running any SEP versions prior to SEP v12.1.6, upgrade to SEP 14.x. (Windows 10 upgrade detects the presence of older SEP clients and may prevent the upgrade process.)
