Supported Versions of macOS at UCSF

Current Supported Versions of macOS

  • macOS 10.15.x (Catalina)
  • macOS 10.14.x (Mojave)
  • macOS 10.13.x (High Sierra) until 12/1/2020

Apple Public Betas / Preview Releases

  • Apple provides preview releases of new versions of macOS and applications like Safari, but these are unsupported and often contain bugs
  • Do not install beta or preview software on Macs used for UCSF business

New versions of macOS

  • Apple is on an annual release cycle for new versions of macOS
  • UCSF IT Field Services starts testing new versions of macOS after they are announce in the summer at Apple WWDC
    • This testing process usually takes 3 to 4 months to complete before a new version of macOS can be supported at UCSF
    • Application compatibility status and other testing notes are available on the UCSF IT wiki: macOS Catalina (10.15) Testing Notes (requires MyAccess login)
  • UCSF IT Service Desk will send out notification emails when new versions of macOS are announced, and also when the new version of macOS is supported by UCSF IT
  • Once UCSF IT has announced that a new version of macOS is supported, you can upgrade your Mac by following these instructions: How to Upgrade macOS on a UCSF Mac (requires MyAccess login)
  • Do not upgrade to an unsupported version of macOS on any Mac used for UCSF business
