Setting up DKIM authentication

The process to setup DKIM authentication will vary slightly depending on the vendor you are using.

In general, the steps are:

  1. Logging into your external email vendor account.
  2. Generate a DKIM key (see links to specific vendors listed below).
    1. Select the self-authentication option (if prompted).
    2. Enter ucsf.edu for the domain name.
  3. Open a ticket.
    1. In the ticket state that you are setting up DKIM authentication.
      1. If you have a custom rule reference, please include it in your ticket.
    2. Include the public DKIM key provided by your email vendor.
    3. Submit your ticket to the email messaging team.
  4. The email messaging team will work with the networking team to add your public DKIM key to the UCSF Domain Name System (DNS)

  • Mailchimp- their handling of DKIM authentication does not provide a sufficient level of security.
