Windows 11 Upgrades Begin

Starting in November 2024, IT will begin upgrading all ITFS-managed Windows computers to Windows 11. This upgrade takes 30-60 minutes of computer downtime and will provide optimized performance and enhanced security. Users have the option to upgrade their workstations as a self-service installation, using the steps below at a time that is convenient for them. Additional details on how to upgrade and what’s changing are listed below.  

Windows 11 Upgrade Instructions

To upgrade to Windows 11, initiate the upgrade by accepting an installation offer in BigFix as demonstrated below. 

Self-Service Installation

NOTE: It is recommended to complete this upgrade at the end of the day and leave your device on. 

  1. Select the BigFix icon from the application tray in the bottom right corner of your screen.
  2. On the BigFix Support Center screen, locate the UCSF-Windows 11 - In-Place Upgrade offer and review the upgrade information.
  3. Click the Accept button to initiate the upgrade.

NOTE: Once initiated, do not restart or shutdown the system as this may cause damage to your computer. After the upgrade begins, it will take roughly 30-60 minutes to complete and will conclude with an automatic system restart.

1. What happened to the Right Click Menu?

The right click menu has changed slightly, the Copy, Paste, Cut, Rename as well as the Share and Delete options are now accessible as icons.
